| Southbound I-17 lane and ramp closures planned for Sept. 30 – Oct. 3 |
| Drivers who use Interstate 17 in the Phoenix area should allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes while the following weekend restrictions are in place for pavement removal. Southbound I-17 between Deer Valley and Cactus roads will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3. The following ramps will also be closed: Southbound I-17 on-ramp at Pinnacle Peak Road The east- and westbound Loop 101 on-ramps to southbound I-17 The southbound frontage road between Greenway and Thunderbird roads also will be closed during this time. For access to Tuscany Pointe Apartments, a portion of the frontage road will remain open. Drivers may travel both north- and southbound from Country Gables Drive to the complex. DETOUR: Consider exiting ahead of the closure and using routes to enter eastbound Loop 101 to access southbound SR 51 as an alternate route to reach downtown Phoenix/Sky Harbor Airport region. Southbound I-17 traffic exiting at Deer Valley Road can detour on southbound 19th or 35th avenues. Please Note: I-17 also narrowed to two lanes (left lanes closed) in both directions between Cactus Road and Dunlap Avenue for center barrier work (Valley Metro’s light rail bridge project). Drivers should use caution and be prepared to slow down and merge safely when approaching and traveling through any work zones. |
